Why This Matters

College academics are different from high school, and that learning curve is normal. Success isn't about being perfect. It's about building effective habits, asking for help early and learning how to learn in a new environment.

High-Impact Actions

  • Learn how your classes really work
    • Review syllabi carefully and note expectations, exam formats, and office hours.
  • Use academic support before your struggling
    • Tutoring, Supplemental Instructions, and workshops are most effective when used proactively.
  • Talk with your professors
    • Office hours are for questions, clarification, and connection -- not just emergencies.

  • Drop in for a tutoring session in the Tutoring Center
  • Create a Study Schedule in the Study Skills Center
  • Supplemental Instruction sessions
  • Faculty Office Hours
  • Meet with your Academic Advisor
  • Complete the Academic Integrity Tutorial
  • Follow up if you receive a Progress Report in a class
  • Prepare in advance for finals

When You Need More Support

  • If your grades or motivation aren't where you want them to be, help is available and commont use
    • Visit The Learning Commons on the first floor of Sid Rich.
    • Talk with your advisor.
    • Reach out to your professor early.
